Robert de Visée, Two Suites and Two Chaconnes
Transcribed for solo guitar by Per Dybro Sørensen.
Much of the lute- and theorbo-music written by Visée has survived in an anthology collected by Jean-Etienne Vaudry de Saizenay around 1699.
In this edition, I have transcribed the pieces, almost as they appear in Vaudry de Saizenay’s manuscript. In order to usher in each of the two suites, I have added two preludes from other places in the collection. And in the second suite, in which there was no sarabande, I have taken the liberty of interpolating the sarabande, “La Du Hautménil”.
