Decreto 883 is a work based on the Ecuadorian rhythms “Danzante” and “Yumbo”. It
consists of a series of variations on a theme written with Ecuadorian folk harmonies
and melodies. As programmatic music, it represents the events experienced in
Ecuador in the October 2019 manifestations, triggered by the entry into force of
Decreto 883. During 12 days, nationwide manifestation exposed the worst and best
from people’s hearts. My only wish is that people don’t forget history, and something
like this never happens again.
